I cannot understand why baseball fans cannot understand why the Yankees are disliked (there, I have succeeded in my attempt to avoid the word "hated") by so many New Yorkers. It is their total arrogance and sense of entitlement, as you have pointed out so often in your writing and your personal comments. I really wanted to continue to like Joe Girardi, the Yankees' latest leader as I have liked him throughout his career...But changing his number from 27 to 28 this season to rub the number of Yankee championships in the faces of all baseballdom was really too much. I have read Joe's comment that Tony LaRussa wore the number 10 in St. Louis to represent the fact that he was attempting to help the team win its 10th championship so, Joe implied, what's the problem with my number choice? Well Joe, Tony didn't switch to number 11 after the Cardinals won their 10th, did he?
